Issues: Fair Trade

John believes that free trade embodied in agreements such as The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) favors large corporations at the expense of workers rights in other countries as well as in the US We must adopt FAIR TRADE policies that respect the rights of workers and small business owners.

> Agreements and institutions such as NAFTA, CAFTA, and the World Trade Organization have contributed to the erosion of our manufacturing base for short-term corporate profits.

> They also have led to the depressing of wages and benefits of those jobs that do remain.

> They have contributed to a depressing of wages and an even further disregarding of environmental standards in other countries as corporations are in search of relocating in countries where workers can be controlled and environmental and worker safety laws are either non-existent or are loosely enforced.

> This further contributes to the problem of illegal immigration in the US as workers search for better jobs. If people are faced with desperate socio-economic circumstances and they cannot move legally, they will move illegally.
